Auckland Council has now removed its ban on Lake Pupuke recreational activities following last month's leakage of diesel from our hospital storage tanks.
Council has advised that water sample test results received on 14 July found that the level of fuel contamination in the lake is below the limit of detection.
As a result of testing, Council officers were satisfied the effect on lake water quality was 'negligible', although they noted that it is possible small pockets of visible sheen could still be encountered and should be avoided. Weather an natural processes were expected to continue to break down any remaining residue.
