Mason Clinic

Construction of a 15-bed medium secure unit at Mason Clinic in Point Chevalier has been approved. The unit, as part of the Regional Forensic Psychiatry Service will take two years to construct, forming the first phase of redevelopment on the site.

Once complete, a second phase will begin, with a programme of significant remediation works on the existing buildings.

The new unit will serve as a decant facility for patients as existing facilities are progressively remediated over three years. Following which it will cater specifically for the needs of Māori following the success of the current models that the forensic service provides. Mental health services have been provided on the site for around 150 years.

The new unit will be located on the site currently occupied by the Puriri building and will include office space on the first floor.

While construction is underway, the functions currently performed by staff working in the Puriri building will be located to other parts of the site.
